Drama on the Homefront!

What a week! Not only did we have a horrible ice storm that left us all going insane at home, but Lexi broke her arm Tuesday night! She came out of her room and said, "Mom, I need some ice, I think I broke my arm." I jumped out of the chair and pulled her night gown up and i could feel a lot of moving and popping. (i know-it's gross!) We piled in the truck and drove to Northwest Medical Center because it was the closest. They got us checked in and had us in a room in about 10 minutes. I think that's a record for an ER around here. After the doctor came in, he set us up for x-rays. When we got to radiology, she was in a lot of pain. They called the doctor and the nurse came down and gave her a shot. We got the x-rays done and waited for the report. The doctor walks in the room and says, "Oh, yeah it's broken." They put a splint on it that went from her shoulder to her hand and told us to see an Orthopaedic doctor to see what they recommend. I asked them if I could see the x-rays, so they showed me. She broke her arm about 2 inches above her elbow all the way through the bone!!! It's broken at an angle. They were floored at how she could have broken it that way.

Because of the weather, all the doctors offices were closed for two days. We got in today and because the break is so bad and in such an odd place, they couldn't put a regular cast on. They put the plaster on from her shoulder to her elbow and wrapped it around several times. Then they wrapped it with some other material and then ace wrap. It is a monstrosity! They put a loop in the top of it that wraps around her neck to keep it stable.

She cannot have a bath or shower for 3 weeks! We have to wash her hair in the sink and do sponge baths! She will go back in three weeks and they will put a special brace on made especially for her. I can only imagine how much that will cost! Here are a couple of pictures. Trust me , it doesn't do it justice. She had to wear one of my shirts earlier today that we had to cut just to get it over the cast. This is Dustin's shirt. :)

Update

Sorry it's been a while since I have blogged. Life has been a little crazy lately.

School:

I started back to Harding 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am taking Management and Organizational Behavior. That's going okay. We actually have a midterm this week-it's a take home. I can't believe we are half way through!!! A week ago I started SPANISH! My instructor is super sweet. It started out rough, but she has been great! I really hope to learn a lot. I want to be able to speak spanish. So, I am in class 3 nights a week!!

Lexi:

We've had the last two Mondays off due to teacher in-service. She is still making straight A's, but she has been slacking a little lately. We've had to stay on her big time. She is more than capable, but she can get a little lazy when it comes to doing her best. We found out this week she is going to have to have a pallital expander and BRACES!!! She's only 8! She will only have braces on her front teeth and then we she is 12 or so, she will have the whole kit and caboodle!

Ellie:

She is a doll! She is doing really well potty training. She will walk to the door, but she won't "tell" us she needs to go. We have to watch her. She loves Lexi so much! She follows her everywhere and goes insane when Lexi comes home from school or has been away for a while. Believe it or not, Dustin adores her! I'll be doing homework and all of a sudden, I hear him laughing. When I go in the room, he is cackling at her.

Needless to say, my life remains busy. I hope all of you are doing well. Keep blogging! :)

The Newest Member of the Family

I got the best Christmas present ever!!! I have wanted a Yorkie for a very long time and I got one for Christmas. Her name is Ellie. She has settled in quite nicely. And by the way, she is spoiled rotten!

I forgot how hard it is to try and train a dog. All day today it's been pouring down rain, so I am trying to use puppy pads. It's not working too well. Anyway, Ellie is absolutely adorable!

It is finished!

As of this evening, I have finished my class on Operations and Productions Management. I can't tell you all how excited I am to be finished!! I should end up with a decent B. I'm am SO relieved!

Now I have almost an entire month off before I start a very hectic semester. I will be in class 3 nights a week starting in January. If y'all know any good people who clean houses- I would love to hear from you! Between work and school next semester, I'm not sure I will have time to sleep, much less clean my house. Ha! Seriously, if you know of anyone, let me know.

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!

A Week Off!

Well, I get a week off from school. I've had 3 tests and only have 2 to go!! I am so ready for this class to be over. I am pulling a B, but it's just barely a B. I'm trying not to be too concerned about it. After the 2nd week in December, I will get a month off before I start a VERY insane semester in the spring.

Lexi got her glasses and within 24 hours, they broke!!! I called Todd's office and they had Lexi come in. They discovered the lab cut the lenses wrong and so they had to send them back. So, hopefully we will have them back on Wednesday. I can tell a huge difference when she is not wearing them.

I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

My baby's gettin' glasses!

For those of you who are here in Bentonville and are around Lexi much, know that she has had issues with her eyes. Both of her eyes drift off and on due to the muscles in her eyes not working properly. When she was 3 or 4, she had to have surgery for this problem. So, this week my mom took her to see Dr. Todd Hook ( our friend from church) and he said that she has to have glasses. This should help keep her eyes focused.

Lexi is ecstatic! Her mama isn't, but I also don't want her to go through all the eye issues I've had my entire life!!!

Dr. Todd told us she will more than likely have to have surgery again, but he wants to put it off as long as possible. We will probably wait until her preteen/teen years to do it.

On another note, I took my second test online and still didn't do very well. I'm pretty frustrated, but I only have 3 more tests to go. LOL! This class will be over soon and then I can move on.

Have a good week. I can't believe the holidays are right around the corner!

What have I gotten into???

Well, I started my online class (which I've never done before) and I think I've lost it! I definetely learn better by seeing and doing, not reading! I turned in my first test which was over 3 chapters (108 pages) and made a C!!! Grrr! I don't have a clue what I am doing! It's been a rough week for me anyway, so this certainly didn't help. Pray for my sanity! I guess we'll try again next week when I take my next test. The work load is actually not much for this class, it just helps me to talk about the material because I learn better that way.

Enough whining... Hopefully the next will be better!
